Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
